Europe succumbs to World Cup fever
Just a day to go and Europe's attention is firmly fixed on a completely different continent. Thirteen European teams have made the long trek to South Africa and the anticipation is rising to fever pitch ahead of tomorrow's kickoff.
The waiting is almost over... Tomorrow the Fifa World Cup 2010 will begin as host nation South Africa takes on Mexico.
From Greece to the Netherlands to Serbia, fans across Europe are hoping that - however long the odds - this year will be their team's year to go down in footballing history.
Those countries unlucky enough not to have made it to South Africa are still entering into the spirit and cheering on their neighbours, often with the help of this year's World Cup gimic of choice - an extremely loud plastic horn known as the vuvuzela.
In the Czech Republic they're backing next-door Slovakia, while, elsewhere, Europe's fans are cheering one of the favourites, such as Spain, or going for the underdogs, Switzerland.
Despite the rivalries that the beautiful game inevitably incites, Europeans across the continent happily agree on one thing - South Africa 2010 will provide welcome relief from the relentless doom and gloom of the finiancial crisis.
