Slovenia: A gangsters' paradise?
One former Italian mobster has caused outrage with his claims that Slovenia is an "easy territory" for organised crime.
In an interview with author Roberto Saviano, published in Italy's La Republicca newspaper, ex-mafia boss Maurizio Prestieri named Slovenia as one of several nearby countries where a weak state and a lack of anti-corruption measures allow organised crime to flourish.
Also favoured by the Italian mob are Albania, Croatia and Montenegro, as well as Greece, where Prestieri suspects Mafia activities may well have contributed to the recent economic crisis.
Slovenian police reject the mobster's allegations. They say Slovenia is one of the safest EU countries and they've not had to investigate a Mafia-related killing for years.
